| Description:
The image of “Mahishasura” resembles an English Sahib while that of “Durga” resembles a “Shabari” (lady rural hunter) with ten birds in her hands instead of weapons. The hawk among those birds slaying “Mahishasura”. The “Pandal” resembles nest of tailor bird with a sun shining effect by light.
There's double Surprise on offer here- a 45-feet nest of the weaverbird conceptualised by filmmaker Goutam Chose. The road leading to the pandal has been decorated with dry grass and flowers. Durga has been modelled after a Santhal woman clad in red and white cotton sari with silver ornaments. The complexion of the idols is dark brown. Instead of weapons, Durga will be armed with 10 birds found in Bengal. The asur has been replaced by a British policeman of the pre-Independence era. To create the right ambience, rural instruments and bird calls will be played as background music. The illumination is special too and bears Ghose's signature style. |
